How Will California Survive Climate Change?

Save the date, April 23rd because Dr. Gary Latshaw will present the environmental future of our Bay Area at the Belmont Library at 7:00 pm with an opportunity for you to ask questions and get answers from an expert.  His presentation, How Will California Survive Climate Change will show you if the property you now own will likely become part of San Francisco Bay.

Gary received his doctorate in physics from Stanford in 1971 and for decades has had a strong interest in our environment, particularly the fouling of our air, our water and the change in climate we are now experiencing.

As global society has generally ignored the increasingly conclusive climate change threat of man-induced environmental degradation, Dr. Latshaw felt compelled to act.  So when Al Gore established the Climate Reality Project Dr. Latshaw was accepted to the project for training and equipping people to present climate change issues.  His presentation may shock you but it will provide scientific evidence on which the change predictions have been made.

Immigration Lecture

San Carlos Sister City Association is sponsoring another informative and educational lecture on current social issues, this time on Immigration and the part that racism plays in the social and economic divide, using Guatemala as an example of what happens in much of the world including the U.S.

Our speaker, Ramón González-Ponciano, took his first degree in Social Anthropology in Guatemala, continued postgrad research at Stanford and took his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin.  Doctor Gonzalez has worked as an economic analyst at the Central American News Agency, was a technical adviser to the Secretariat of Urban Development and Ecology and as a full professor at the Social Sciences Faculty at the University of Chiapas, Mexico.

Our speaker will focus on changes resulting from migration from three Central American countries where natural disasters, war, poverty, and political turmoil have made everyday living so difficult for the average family.

Join us at 7:30 pm on Monday, February 26th at the Belmont library auditorium
